Eating disorders can have a devastating impact on the lives of sufferers and the people around them. Beat’s vision is an end to the pain and suffering caused by these serious mental illnesses. Campaign with us and help make that vision a reality.

To bring about positive change, we need to encourage a compassionate, understanding society where people feel able to talk about their illness. We need to ensure that everyone knows how to spot the early symptoms, equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge to make a fast referral, and establish funding so that everyone can get the treatment they need as quickly as possible. In everything we do, we focus on early treatment – we know that the faster someone can access treatment for their eating disorder, the better their chance of a full and sustained recovery.

It means that there’s a lot of work to be done, and we can’t do it without your help.

Campaign: Increase Eating Disorder Training for Medical Students and Junior Doctors

Research has shown that, on average, UK undergraduate medical students receive less than two hours of teaching on eating disorders, throughout their entire medical degree.

Campaign: End the Wait

Lives are put at risk by these long waiting times. The situation is so bad that we are aware that some people are making themselves more ill in order to get the treatment they deserve. This is unacceptable and we must change it.

Campaign: Public Health Not Public Shaming

Ask the Government to rethink their obesity strategy to ensure that people affected by eating disorders are not further put at risk.

Campaigning successes so far

Event: Introduction to Campaigning

This Eating Disorders Awareness Week we aim to start conversations, raise funds and change lives. But how do we have those conversations that will start to change lives? This webinar will be the first in a series exploring the what, why, who and how of campaigning.
