Eating disorders can affect anyone, including your staff and their families. Partnering with Beat demonstrates that your company really cares for its people.
Most organisations recognise the importance of being a supportive employer in respect of the mental health of their staff and we have seen the important growth of having certificated Mental Health First Aiders in the workplace.
You may be unaware that eating disorders are the biggest killer among all forms of mental illness in the UK. Our research shows that at least 1.25 million people in the UK suffer with an eating disorder and if we widen the circle to include those who are likely to be supporting and caring for someone, the number quickly ratchets up to about 5 million people in the UK who are impacted by eating disorders.
So, it is likely that someone working for your organisation will be suffering under this pressure, either with an eating disorder or supporting a loved one.
We're the UK's leading eating disorder charity, championing the voices of those who need our support, and spreading awareness to raise awareness of the seriousness of these mental health illnesses. We can work with you to support those who may need help.
We can help you make your workplace eating disorder aware - helping you to create a supportive culture for those with eating disorders.
We can bring the considerable knowledge and insight of people with lived experience to benefit your company, customers and clients.
There are lots of ways you can support us, whether that’s through a partnership, training, fundraising or something else you and your colleagues can make a difference.
Our Corporate Partnerships team can work with you to provide tailored training modules to help your HR professionals (or other nominated staff) spot the signs of an eating disorder, and how to talk to that member of staff to help them access treatment and to support them as they seek to recover, in the same way you would with any physical illness.
Our training also helps your HR team to understand the issues that arise when living with a loved one who has an eating disorder so that you can support any staff members who may be struggling at work because of the stress and pressures, especially if the illness is becoming life-threatening to their loved one.
We also offer consultancy to companies to ensure that their brand, product and marketing are having a positive impact on people affected by or vulnerable to eating disorders.
This consultancy work typically involves surveys, round table discussions and other means of consultation with experts by experience, convened and facilitated by Beat.
Elevating the voices of those affected by eating disorders is at the heart of what we do, and we want to bring the considerable knowledge and insight of people with lived experience to benefit your company, customers and clients.
We can provide expertise to help your organisation ensure its policy documentation reflects the awareness, support and best in class employment standards which caring employers aspire towards.
You could help us by donating media space, space for meetings or hot-desking, helping us with your skills or time on a pro-bono basis. If you have an idea you’d like to talk to us about contact us.
