Dr Heike Bartel is Professor of Health Humanities and German Studies at the University of Nottingham. Her work bridges arts & humanities, creative practice and healthcare and she is Co-I in the UKRI-funded EDIFY programme (Eating Disorders: Delineating illness and recovery trajectories to inform personalised prevention and early intervention in young people: https://edifyresearch.co.uk/) She currently leads research on young people’s experiences with social media and AI as part of their eating disorders / disordered eating (latest publication: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1186/s40337-025-01505-6). She has co-designed with clinicians, people with lived experience and makers of animated film, RCGP- and RCN-accredited training tools for healthcare professionals around eating disorders in under represented groups (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/groups/hungry-for-words/). She is hoping that one outcome of this workshop will be collaborations on a training tool for healthcare professionals on Eating Disorders, Social Media and AI.
