Hi, my name is Emma i’m 19 years old and I recently participated in a charity wingwalk in aid of Beat raising £1,278!
I decided to take part in this challenge specifically for Beat as it is a charity that helps people and their families every day who struggle with an eating disorder. They provide so much support to those struggling and really make a difference.
While fundraising for Beat I had lots of support from everyone around me including Beat. They sent me emails consistently leading up to my wing walk and gave me useful information on how to keep my fundraiser progressing.
For me, the thing that helped me during fundraising was really putting it out there and making everybody aware. Sharing my experiences and sharing the importance and severity of eating disorders. Sharing and being confident really helps you reach as many people as possible!
In August 2023, I took part in another event for charity. I completely a skydive from 11,000 feet in aid of EDYS (Eating Disorder Young People Services) which is a service who also looks after young people and they’re families who suffer with an eating disorder. They make a difference to people’s lives every day, including mine!
Although there are many highlights of the wing walk, like the feeling of adrenaline, freedom and excitement, the biggest highlight for me was the feeling of accomplishment once I completed it, as helping others and spreading awareness is the best and most rewarding feeling ever! The more the world has an understanding of eating disorders, the more we can do to help lead people to recovery.
If you are reading this an you are considering doing a wing walk or any other activity in aid of a charity close to your heart, my best advice would be to just go for it!
Give your chosen charity the appreciation they deserve but also do it for yourself and everyone else you wish to help. Because trust me you will be helping so many people, and that truly is what matters the most. You CAN make a difference!
If I had to sum up my wing walk and fundraising experience in aid of Beat in 3 words, it would be unforgettable, gratifying, and very very special ❤️
I would like to say a huge thank you to Beat for all they’re amazing support though out the last few months while preparing for my wing walk and giving me lots of motivation. It really means the world 🌍
Sending everybody lots of love and strength, and if you’re struggling, just know recovery is there for you in the best way possible 🫶🏽
