Yoga

If you are a yoga teacher (or you know a teacher that would be willing to get involved) you could hold a yoga class from your own home or at a local studio.

Get Started

We have put together a step-by-step guide to help you start your yoga class online to raise funds for Beat:

Step 1: Choose your online platform

Holding an online yoga class by live streaming is now easier than ever! Think about which platform you would like to use (most are now free): Skype, Google Hangouts, Facetime, Zoom to name a few. This means that you can teach multiple people at the same time and keep that personal connection.

Step 2: Tell Beat

Register your event with Beat and we'll support your fundraising activities and provide tips and advice to help you reach your target.

Step 3: How to publicise your event

Set up a JustGiving page to publicise your event and receive your donation towards the class. JustGiving is free and easy to set up, and gives you the opportunity to let others know about your event and why you want to raise money for Beat. Include the exact time and date (making sure you give everyone enough time to join the meeting). We also recommend setting up a Facebook Event or Page so that people can keep up to date on your event. Share your JustGiving page on social media too to let friends and family know.

Step 4: Donation

Let everyone know the minimum donation from each person that you would like to receive for the class and download our fact sheet to share how the donations will make a difference to the lives of people affected by eating disorders. You can ask for the suggested donation to be made to your JustGiving page, and ask that they do not donate anonymously so you can then send them the link to join the class online.

Please note that you will not be able to claim Gift Aid on your donations as your donor will receive goods/services in return.

Step 5: The class

Please bear in mind that you may have a mixture of abilities joining the class so make sure that you can tailor your class appropriately. Also, ask people to switch their microphones off while the class is taking place to reduce background noise and each person can listen to their preferred music.

Step 6: Thank everyone

Make sure at the end of the class you thank everyone for their donations and remind them why it was so important for you all to come together and raise funds for Beat. This will help us to spread awareness and let everyone know that our Helplines are open 365 days a year for those who need us. We could not remain open at this critical time if it wasn’t for supporters like you!

Remember to remind those coming to the class about health and safety. You could put a short disclaimer on the bottom of your Just Giving page similar to the example below.

Disclaimer: By taking part in the virtual yoga class, you agree that any injury or damage caused by completing the class is your own responsibility. I accept no responsibility for any damage or injury occurring during the yoga class.

Please follow our Fundraising Guidelines to ensure your fundraising is suitable, legal, and safe for everyone involved. It’s important to choose a fundraising activity that is right for you.  It’s especially important that you choose an appropriate fundraising activity, if you have previous experience of an eating disorder or are in recovery.
