The Department for Health and Social Care has announced a new mental health strategy.
Beat's Chief Executive, Vanessa Longley, said:
“This strategy marks a long-awaited turning point for those struggling with their mental health. A cross-government approach is desperately needed to tackle the inequalities in care across England, ensuring safe and quality treatment for anyone who needs it.
“Most importantly, this strategy must not allow eating disorder provision to lag behind other areas of care. The number of people affected by an eating disorder is growing, yet it also has one of the largest treatment gaps across mental health care. It’s clear that the current system is leading to avoidable and costly hospital admissions and, tragically, to preventable deaths.
“Throughout this process, we will ensure the voices of anyone affected by eating disorders are heard and, together, work to achieve real change.”
