Momentum

What is Momentum?

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends guided self-help as the first treatment for binge eating disorder. If you take part in Momentum, you’ll work through a clinically recommended self-help programme based on cognitive behavioural therapy, while our trained facilitators support you through the programme with regular guidance sessions. Weight loss isn’t an aim of guided self-help; instead the programme is designed to help you overcome the urge to binge eat and develop a healthy approach to eating. You will be offered eight support sessions, over 8 weeks. During these sessions you will helped to follow the self-help programme. The self-help programme used will be the well-established and evidence-based book “Overcoming Binge Eating”, as recommended by NICE.

Who is it for?

Adults (aged 18+) who present with Binge Eating Disorder or regular binge eating episodes.

Am I suitable?

  • Are you 18 years or above?
  • Would you consent to your GP being informed of your participation and information being shared with your ED team/GP if needed?
  • Are you medically stable (as indicated by factors such as stable blood results and ECG for the last 3 months)?
  • Do you have disordered eating - must be presenting with binge-eating episodes/loss of control of your eating.

If you have answered yes to the above questions, please complete the self referral form and one of our team will be in touch with our sign up questionnaire within 5 working days. Please be aware that referral and completion of the sign up survey does not guarantee a place on our programme as there are some other questions taking into consideration.
