LENS: Lived Experiences Narrated on Screen

Why is this research happening?

This research aims to better understand the lived experiences of gay and bisexual men aged 18–25 who have experienced eating disorders and autistic spectrum condition (ASC).

The project seeks to address the limited and often stereotypical representation of these intersecting identities in mainstream television.

By working directly with people who have lived experience, the research will co-create a fictional television pilot script that reflects authentic experiences, challenges stigma, and promotes more accurate and inclusive media representation.

Who is doing the research?

The research is being conducted by Kieran Coleman, a PhD researcher at King's College London within the Department of Culture, Media and Creative Industries.

The study forms part of a doctoral research project and is supervised by Professor Sarah Atkinson and Professor Laia Becares.
