Tori Ames

Tori was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa at the age of 40 whilst after suffering for a number of years, interventions and hospitalisations for treatment resistant depression. She was admitted shortly after diagnosis to a 5 month inpatient stay on an eating disorder ward. After some difficultly in finding suitable day care services on her discharge, she was granted funding for 3 months to a full-time NHS comprehensive day program. After this she was transferred to her local ‘services’. These being vastly inadequate she engaged a private therapist who specialised in EDs, a Eating Disorder Recovery Coach, a short proactive voluntary private in-hospital stay and availed herself of two befriender schemes and used all of the skills and knowledge gleaned to developing her own strategy and recovery plan.
