Beat IT at the Santa Run 2017

Posted 27/11/2017

“Together, we are showing recovery is possible, championing positive change, and raising awareness of eating disorders.”

In the UK there are 1.25million people suffering from an eating disorder. Beat is the UK’s eating disorder charity. Our vision is an end to the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders.

Beat IT are Beat’s team of Ambassadors and supporters who have all experienced an eating disorder in some way, whether personally or through looking after someone they know. They’ll be walking the Santa Run route with the aim of raising £2200 – enough money to fund Beat’s Helpline for two days, helping 134 people on average. As well as raising vital funds to support our work, the Santa Run will help Beat to raise awareness of eating disorders.

“We are ‘running’ to champion recovery, and to show everyone affected by these serious mental illnesses that recovery is possible.”

On average people suffering with eating disorders suffer for 95 weeks before they recognise they have an eating disorder, this can be due to low awareness and knowledge of what an eating disorder is.

“What I learnt whilst fundraising is not to underestimate the power of our stories as Beat Ambassadors.” Katy, member of Beat IT.
