Crafty crafting

Do you have a craft skill that you could share? Whether it be knitting, crochet, embroidery or origami, set up a JustGiving page and ask friends and family to make a suggested donation.

Let people know what they will need to bring, why you want to fundraise, when the classes will be held and where. If you’re holding a virtual event include the link to whatever platform you will use for your class. Skype, Facetime, Zoom – there are lots to choose from!

Crafting can be a great way to unwind, practice mindfulness and continue to feel part of a community of support and hope for those affected by eating disorders.

Remember, every penny you raise will ensure our Helpline Advisors can support more people affected by eating disorders.

Isabella got creative and fundraised with handmade bracelets:

I came up with the idea after not being able to find something on the market that suited my style and also made me feel empowered. I also discovered a bracelet set I used to use all the time when I was younger and it reminded me that there is so much more out there, even if at the moment anorexia is controlling my everyday life. To me it has also been a symbol of hope.

Making the bracelets also helps my mental health as I’m very creative and it’s a great distraction.

I think if you want to support Beat go for it! Do what you do best, do what you love! Make fundraising a relaxing and fun thing to do that helps you to move forward with recovery or distracts you from the hell of living with an eating disorder.
