EDIFY Youth Advisors

Who can take part?

EDIFY is looking for youth advisors to take part who are:

  • Aged between 16-25, with lived experience of any eating disorder
  • Passionate about leading real change in eating disorder awareness, policy and practice
  • Living in the UK

We understand that eating disorders impact people of all ethnicities, genders, and backgrounds, and encourage all to apply.

What is the purpose of the research?

EDIFY is a new research project aiming to completely revolutionise our understanding of eating disorders. Young people with lived experience of eating disorders are at the heart of this project, and EDIFY aims to prioritise their perspectives, to listen to their voices and ensure that the research is in line with their needs. This is why we need your help!

What does the study involve?

EDIFY is looking to recruit 12 youth advisors to work across different projects. Some projects are more scientific (e.g. brain scanning, data science) and would suit people interested in careers in STEM. Other projects are arts and humanities-based (e.g. arts workshops, interviews) and would suit those with creative minds and career plans. You can let us know which type of project you would like to work on, so that we can match to your interests and skills.

To make sure you get the most out of this role, we are looking for young people who can commit to being involved in the project for a minimum of one year. This role would involve tasks such as designing and reviewing study materials and advising researchers on what factors are most important or relevant to you in their investigation. This will amount to a time commitment of around 1-2 hours per month, plus 3 hours per meeting; in total, 18 hours minimum for one year.

You will be paid for your time at a rate of £12.50 per hour. We will also cover reasonable expenses, like if you are asked to travel to a meeting.

In addition to being paid for your time, being an EDIFY youth advisor will give you the chance to:

  • Be part of a community of like-minded young people
  • Develop your transferable skills e.g. project management and presentation skills
  • Learn more about clinical research
  • Have a personalised training plan led by an EDIFY researcher
  • Steer research priorities to help people with eating disorders
  • Contribute to our academic papers as a co-author
  • Obtain references to future colleges, universities or employers
