To be eligible to take part, you must maintain a BMI of above 14 (if you are over the age of 18) or above 66% of the median BMI for age and gender (if you are under the age of 18), and you must have completed at least one adequate previous course of treatment for your eating disorder. You must be able to sit upright in a comfortable chair for up to 30 minutes. It is important to tell us if you have any metal anywhere in your body because you will not be able to participate in this study if you do. If you are pregnant (or think you might be), you will not be able to participate in this study. You will be requested to inform the researcher of this information. Taking part in this study will not influence the timing of any treatment you are currently receiving for your eating disorder.

What is the purpose of the research?

We are interested in looking at the short- and longer-term effects of theta burst stimulation in adolescents and adults with anorexia nervosa.

What does the study involve?

The study has two parts which involves (1) participants receiving a single session of real or sham TBS, and (2) participants receiving 20 sessions of real TBS. You can participate in the single-session only, or you can participate in the single-session and the 20-session study. Participants will undergo an MRI scan, computer tasks (brain puzzles), blood sample, a single session of real or sham TBS and/or 20 sessions of real TBS.
