Dear (Name of your head teacher or school council)
I am writing to you to request permission to hold an (ACTIVITY) on (DATE) during Eating Disorders Awareness Week (2nd – 8th March). I want to raise awareness of eating disorders at school and fundraise to support Beat’s support services which help thousands of people affected every year.
It is estimated that around 1.25 million people in the UK have an eating disorder and as you may know, eating disorders are serious mental illnesses that can affect anyone, at any age. School students can be vulnerable to developing an eating disorder due to the academic pressures at school, eating with others and social anxieties. Beat’s support services are available for those that have an eating disorder and for their friends and family members too. It costs £1,200 to run their support services every day and these services are completely free to use and open 365 days of the year.
(Add a section about why you would like your school to be involved.)
Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and consider my request.
University can be a difficult time for those affected by eating disorders. Spread the word that eating disorders can be beaten together this Eating Disorders Awareness Week and fundraise to help any student who may be affected get the support they need. Whether you hold a collection at a sports match, a bake sale on campus or a yogathon, email the fundraising team on email@example.com to get the materials and resources you need to get started.
We’re also EDucating MPs and MSPs on the impact that eating disorders have on the lives of students this Eating Disorders Awareness Week. You can send a pre-drafted postcard to your MP or MSP to let them know what needs to change and what they can do to help. Find out more and request your postcard here.
